Artistry is Anguish, But Doesn’t Have to Be

Artistry is for the most part anguish. We are a tormented bunch. We are hard on ourselves when we don’t create things up to our standards.

Behind Blue Eyes

Often we will take it personally when others don’t look at our creations with appreciation and joy.

As a child, we didn’t usually feel this need for validation. We took joy in the act of creating. All we cared about was creating. We just created without the need for any specific result.

I challenge you today to just make something.

Take that picture.

Draw something,

Write something.

Paint a landscape, still life, or portrait.

Sculpt a figure (steal the kids’ molding clay if you have to).

So, go ahead and create something today. If you would like to, leave me a picture in the comment with what you created. Who knows? It may inspire others to create something as well.
